Key Milestones

2001 to 2005
July 2001: Bali services discontinued.
August 2001: Airnorth started direct services to Darwin.
September 2001: Ansett ceased services in Broome (and over Australia).
November 2001: Most of main runway resealed and runway 28 end reconstructed.
February 2002: State and Federal environmental clearances received for the new airport site.
March 2002: Qantas started Perth-Broome Boeing 737 services. Their new 737-800s join the route.
November 2002: Runway extension and repair work completed..
March 2003: Qantas start direct Melbourne-Broome services.
April 2003: Virgin Blue direct flights from Adelaide.
October 2003: Skywest airlines commences direct flights from Perth.
February 2004: Terminal upgrade and car park work completed.
July 2004: Qantas commences direct Sydney-Broome services.
2006 - 2011
April 2007: Reith McLeod, Airport Manager since 1991, resigns and is replaced by Nick Belyea.
August 2007: Airnorth adds the Embraer 170 (76 seats) to the Darwin-Broome route.
June 2008: Airport Master Plan to 2025 released.
April 2009: Broome Heliport opened by the Premier, Honourable Colin Barnett MLA.
March 2010 Nick Belyea promoted to Group CEO
June 2010: Airnorth commences Pilbara services.
April 2011 Qantas commences direct Brisbane-Broome services
May 2010: BIA commences managing Djarindjin Lombadina Airport
Hangar C added to Broome Heliport
November 2013: Runway upgraded with complete asphalt overlay
January 2014: BIA Group Chairman, Michael Caplehorn, passes away suddenly
February 2014: Lou Sauzier becomes Chairman of the BIA Group & Steve Reindler joins the BIA Group Board
June 2014: Hangar D added to Broome Heliport
July 2014: Paul McSweeney promoted to Airport General Manager
September  2016  Nick Belyea retires as Chief Executive Officer
 October 2016  Paul McSweeney promoted to Chief Executive Officer
